Halloween Costumes 2010

It was fun to have time to work on Halloween costumes this year! (Last year Mom stepped in and made them for me) I was on track to finish the kid's costumes before the day they were wearing them, but I have to admit I was making button holes and sewing on buttons to Aidan's shirt and painting a helmet Saturday morning. They kids were all very excited about their costumes and the way they turned out.....I was too!!!

I made Eli's costume, but not this year......If anyone saw Aidan (or pictures of him) in his costume 3 years ago, you would know that he was a dalmatian and Spencer was a firefighter. Eli will be exactly what Aidan was for Halloween 3 years previous until he can voice his own opinion and/or cannot be convinced to use the same costume. Hahaha! Hand-me-downs are the BEST! So next year is set for a dragon, and then the big-bad wolf the year after that. Maybe Speed Racer 2 will come out within the next 3 years and Eli will want to be Speed Racer when he is 4.....you never know *wink, wink* Eli wasn't so thrilled with the dalmatian suit at first, but as soon as he discovered he got candy when wearing it, he threw a fit when I wouldn't put it on him for Church the following day! He had trick-or-treating ALL figured out!!

For anyone who knows Aidan, he is a HUGE Speed Racer fan! We own, not one, but two copies of the movie (incase one gets scratched or lost), and a multitude of Mach 5 replicas in all sizes. I have to admit that when first asked what he wanted to be for halloween, Aidan replied, "An Elephant!" Really? What am I supposed to do with that? I am a good seamstress, don't get me wrong, but an elephant???? I waited a day thinking that his little brain would forget all about his choice only to get the same answer. This is when i presented him with the idea of Speed Racer......had the thought never occurred to him? Guess not, because once the suggestion wedged itself between his big would-be elephant ears he was SUPER EXCITED to be Speed Racer. Elephants were never heard from again.......=). Aidan's hair is normally blonde, so I dyed it dark brown (non-perminent). His reaction to this was, "Mom, I want to have black hair FOREVER!" hahaha. 4 weeks to a 4 year old is like forever, right? So here is Aidan as Speed Racer.

This was the first time Abby has asked to be something that could not be found in a fairy tale. It made me sad, but I was excited to make her wish come true. Over the summer, thanks to Netflix instant streaming from the Wii, Abby discovered Hannah Montana. She watched the first 3 seasons and sang the theme song non-stop. I am OK with the image portrayed by Miley Cyrus in these first 3 seasons, and that is all Abby knows.....I'm not so sure about her current look as a role model for teeny-bopper though. She actually played around with being Taylor Swift, but Hannah Montana is more recognizable for costumes. The only think I made for Abby's costume was the tunic/dress she is wearing. Abby thought the sparkles on the fabric would be something Hannah would have worn.

After trick-or-treating it was a candy free-for-all for one night......Eli was in heaven! It took him until 11 PM to finally crash, and then he slept for 12 hours......hahaha. The candy was officially "put up" today and I think it will find it's way to the trash in the next few days.
